What is a Wonder-Lift and What Facial Problem Does It Address?

Have you experienced a loss of skin elasticity and muscle tone of the face and neck? Have your chin and neck lost their youthful contours? Have you developed facial and neck wrinkles? Do you have jowls that weren’t there last year? Does your face appear tired? If you answered yes to any of these questions, the muscles in your face are probably part of the problem. To address this issue, you may be a candidate for Dr. Kaplan’s Wonder-Lift. The outcome of the Wonder-Lift is a more rested and youthful appearance, particularly in the lower third of your face.

Wonder-LIft results

The Wonder-Lift is a type of facelift that specifically addresses these concerns. Facelifts range in size from “mini” to “standard” depending on the location and extent of skin elasticity and muscle weakness. The Wonder-Lift manages most of these problems with smaller and fewer incisions than a standard facelift and with more resolution of neck issues than a mini-lift. The Wonder-Lift is done on an outpatient basis under monitored anesthesia care (MAC). It typically takes approximately one and half hours. Incisions are made within the hairline (or along the hair margin) above the ear, extending down around the earlobe and ending behind the ear. The incisions are hidden in natural folds of the skin. The subcutaneous layers and neck muscles are tightened, the facial skin is re-draped and lifted, and the excess skin is removed.

The patient goes home with their head and neck (under the chin) wrapped in a dressing, which is usually removed the next day. Sutures are removed within 5-6 days. Staples are removed within 10-14 days. Bruising and swelling decrease to “socially acceptable” levels in 7-10 days. Make-up can be worn once the incisions are healed. Significant results are evident in 4-6 weeks or sooner with continued improvement for several months. Minimal initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication.

In this video, Dr. Kaplan discusses the benefits of his Wonder-Lift™ which is a minimally invasive procedure that addresses concerns early to avoid a more extensive surgery in the future. By designing a surgical solution to address his patients concerns in the lower third of the face, he has helped many patients feel they appear years younger with a minimally invasive procedure that reduces their downtime. Why Do I Need A Facial Plastic Surgeon?

Imagine going to see a dentist to correct your bunions, or visiting a pediatrician to find out why your back is hurting. Most intelligent people want to see a specialist when it comes to a problem limited to a specific region of your body. Yet often a surgeon who specializes in breast augmentation or tummy tucks will suggest they also address your concerns about an aging face. Shouldn’t the qualifications of a surgeon meet the same standards as a specialist for your feet or back?

Facial Plastic Surgery is a Certified Specialty Practice where qualified surgeons spend the same amount of time learning the face and neck region that general surgeons spend learning the entire human body. Facial Surgery Specialists belong to the American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). Surgeons belonging to the Academy have completed hundreds of additional hours to become the most knowledgeable about the muscle, tissue and the complete functionality of the face and neck region.

In this video, Doctor Kaplan discusses the qualifications you should require when selecting a Facial Plastic Surgeon and the importance of being evaluated by a Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Specialist, whether you are considering injectables, surgery or even laser skin care for your face and neck.

Is Facial Cosmetic Surgery Painful?

Dr. Kaplan is often asked these three questions: Is cosmetic surgery painful? Will I need to go to a recovery facility? How much downtime is required?

His answer may surprise you. “Generally patients describe their surgical experience in degrees of discomfort rather than as painful. Patients do not need to spend time in a recovery facility and are usually most comfortable in their own own bed in their homes. In fact, very little “nursing” care is required. However Dr. Kaplan recommends that patients have a “caregiver” with them during the first 24 hours as a precaution. Normal activities are generally resumed within a week or two with a few exceptions on extreme exercise and extensive sun exposure.

In this video, Doctor Kaplan discusses the recovery process and the typical experiences of his patients. His extensive experience performing facial cosmetic procedures of the face and neck for over 30 years allows him to minimize recovery time by limiting surgery time—which in turn, minimizes his patients discomfort. Can Exercises or Creams Lift My Face?

Dr. Kaplan acknowledges that there are many products advertised that suggest they can reverse the effects of time on the face and neck region. However, when asked if exercises or creams can lift a face, Dr. Kaplan candidly describes what can be accomplished with creams and exercises and what cannot. While some creams or treatments can address fine lines and/or the appearance of the skin in the short term, facial concerns about a face dropping or heavy eyelids most often require surgery for a permanent solution. In addition he assures his patients that gravity is a factor that requires more attention earlier if you want to maintain a youthful appearance longer and reduce the necessity for a dramatic change in your appearance.

In this video, Doctor Kaplan discusses cosmetic concerns and what can be improved upon with exercises and creams and the concerns that will require surgery for significant improvement. Doctor Kaplan’s extensive experience performing facial cosmetic procedures of the face and neck for over 30 year affords him a strong prediction about what solutions provide an actual improvement in appearance and those products or exercises which are simply no help at all. Why would my face surgeon suggest injectables and surgery?

When determining which type of rejuvenation procedure will best achieve your “beauty” objectives, it is important to understand that injectable muscle relaxers or fillers and laser procedures are generally not substitutes for surgery. They often compliment each other rather than being a replacement for the other(s). Since they address different stages and effects of the aging process, each has its specific role in a rejuvenation plan and may be used alone or in combination. Lasers, muscle relaxers (Botox/Dysport), and skin care often address issues related to a deterioration of the tone and elasticity of the skin and the muscles supporting the skin as well as the texture and pigment of the skin. Injectable fillers are prescribed to address volume loss and surgery most effectively addresses sagging.

To provide a natural look, a cosmetic surgeon focuses on creating balance which means that the more training and expertise they have, the more tools in their beauty “toolbox” and the more likely they will prescribe the optimal treatment plan for you. Consulting with a facial cosmetic specialist who is trained in the full range of rejuvenation alternatives – surgical as well as non-surgical – will provide you with you the most effective and comprehensive treatment plan and often the most economical.

In this video, Doctor Kaplan discusses injectables and how the products have improved over time. Injections or Surgery for your Face—When to Choose?

Injections or Surgery: When’s the Right Time? Posted Friday, January 13, 2012 by NewBeauty Staff. Perhaps you have been considering a procedure to address your aging skin. Do you opt for an injectable like Botox or Dysport to stop muscle movement or a filler like Juvéderm or Radiesse to add volume? Or is it time for surgery in the form of a facelift, browlift or eyelift?

Your plastic surgeon may suggest that you give fillers a try if you have relatively good skin elasticity, but have lost some of the fullness in your face. Fillers can plump up areas that are beginning to look a bit gaunt, but they cannot address excessively sagging skin. If wrinkles are bothering you, injectables like Botox or Dysport may fit the bill to stop the facial movements (like squinting) that cause the lines.

If you have tried injectables or fillers and feel that you look “puffy” or “doughy,” it may be time to move on to surgery. If you have sagging skin, surgery is more effective.

However, since some areas of your face may need more aggressive attention than others, don’t be surprised if your doctor suggests injectables or fillers in conjunction with surgery to help you achieve the most natural, balanced look. Bottom line: Seek out a board-certified plastic surgeon to help determine the current condition of your skin and the best ways to improve it.

In this video, Doctor Kaplan discusses why you may be looking tired when you are not and the surgical and non-surgical solutions to that problem. His extensive experience in face and neck region enables him to know how best to apply today’s procedures and technology to achieve the best results. Surgery or Non-Surgical procedure? What is the WonderLift™?

Dr. Kaplan firmly believes that the right time to do facial plastic surgery depends on the patient and their concerns. While one patient may feel the benefits for years, others will require more surgery later based on their skin tone and quality, heritage and the structure of their face. It can also vary depending on weight loss, general health and how well that person sleeps and takes care of themselves every day. While some people seem not to age for years, others seem to age overnight and no surgeon or doctor can accurately predict your circumstances or more reasonably take an educated guess without meeting you and examining your face and medical history.

In addition to surgery, Dr. Kaplan provides many non-surgical, minimally invasive procedures to prolong his patients youthful appearance. These procedures can reduce fine lines and improve skin tone to help patients appear more youthful and rested. However once the physical structure of your face descends, surgery is the best option and investment as superficial solutions are much less effective.

What is a Microlaser Peel and Can It Help Me?

A MicroLaser Peel as explained in this video by Dr. Kaplan FACS in Torrance, is a method using a laser that causes controlled stress to the face and neck region and then through the process of healing improves the look and texture of skin. It is credited with reducing the appearance of fine lines, enlarged pores and other facial skin appearance problems. If done in a series of two or three in 7 week intervals, the skin texture improves noticeably and results can last five or more years before having to repeat the process. Dr. Kaplan explains the process and the results to expect.

Is Facial Cosmetic Surgery Your Best Option?

What is your wisest option in the long run, a facelift or regular non-surgical injectable treatments over time? According to Dr. Kaplan, it depends on the problem. While fillers and muscle relaxers can be safely injected to create a more youthful appearance, the end results are dependent on the doctor’s skills and experience and the conditions of your facial structure and skin. Doctors who specialize in the face and neck region (FACS Board Certified) are more familiar with the muscles in the face and neck and therefore better able to successfully address the patient concerns. They are also better qualified to inform patients honestly when surgery will be more effective when the patients problems simply cannot be addressed by injectables alone. Dr. Kaplan warns patients that cosmetic spas and beauty practices run by Nurse Practitioners or non-Surgeons may not be as forthcoming with that advice since their services are limited to injectable procedures and topical treatments.

According to Dr. Kaplan, the Doctor for Faces, it is important to be evaluated by a Facial Cosmetic Surgeon who specializes in the face and neck exclusively and who is the most skilled in maximizing injectable results in the face and neck. Surgeons are regulated to make sure the patient is adequately informed on all of their options and counseled on the pros and cons to make the best choice for themselves.

In this video, Doctor Kaplan discusses when surgery is necessary and alternatives to surgery when they are acceptable.
