A cheek implant is a surgical procedure that addresses the mid-face area which has become hollow and flat looking which in turn contributes to the development of deep lines around the mouth, between the nose and the corners of the mouth, and to smile lines. These unwelcome changes occur as a normal part of the aging process and genetics is often a factor. As you age, you will likely notice your cheeks gradually loosing their definition as the cheek pads start migrating south. These changes cause many people to consider having cheek implants to safely and effectively correct this problem and to restore a more youthful, vibrant look to the face.
Dr. Kaplan recommends and performs cheek implant surgery, using his unique approach, skills and expertise to help turn back the clock and to effectively address these unwelcome visible age-related changes to the mid-face area. To enhance the results of cheek implant surgery, Dr. Kaplan often recommends adding injectable fillers - such as Radiesse, Restylane, Perlane or Juvéderm - to the treatment plan. Cheek implant surgery, when combined with injectable fillers to address the lines, folds and grooves around the mouth, often ensures the most satisfying overall result and provides the optimal outcome. Many patients choose to combine cheek implant surgery with other facial enhancement procedures such as a facelift or a blepharoplasty.
What Dr. Kaplan's Cheek Implant Surgery Accomplishes:
- Restored fullness and contour to the cheeks
- Improved proportion and balance with other facial features
- A softer, fuller more youthful appearance
- Softer appearance to lines, wrinkles and creases
Dr. Kaplan generally performs Cheek Implant Surgery using IV Sedation. If the cheek implant surgery is performed in conjunction with other surgical procedures such as a facelift, MAC (monitored anesthesia care) is used. All surgery is performed as an out-patient procedure in our state-of-the-art AAAHC certified operating room suite, complete with all of the required monitoring, anesthesia delivery and emergency equipment. Dr. Kaplan makes every effort to ensure your complete safety and comfort during surgery. If MAC is used, it will be administered by a board certified anesthesiologist who is present throughout the entire operation as (s)he administers and monitors the anesthesia. Anesthesia will be discussed during your pre-operative appointment.
After you are made totally comfortable, Dr. Kaplan will do the following based upon your needs and the techniques he will need to use during your surgery:
- Cheek implant surgery is performed through an invisible, intra-oral incision in the upper gum in the mouth. Sutures are dissolvable.
- Through this incision Dr. Kaplan will work to create a pocket in which to place the implant (prosthesis) and position it to achieve the desired results.
- Dr. Kaplan is skilled and experienced in manipulating the implant to achieve a precise placement, which sculpts and augments that area, in order to achieve proper balance, restore proportion and enhance the appearance of the mid-face.
- Swelling and bruising is normal and subsides gradually over several days.
- Any discomfort is easily managed with oral medication.
- Internal sutures will dissolve.
- Your results will be visible within a few weeks – as swelling subsides completely.
