You will be made totally comfortable and local anesthesia will be administered. Dr. Kaplan will then mark your earlobes before surgically correcting and realigning them. Very fine sutures are used to hold the repaired skin together and steri-strips are applied for a few days. Sutures are usually removed in about 10 days. It is important to keep the area clean and dry. Dr. Kaplan may also recommend a topical antibiotic ointment. Complete healing takes from 2-3 weeks. If you plan to re-pierce your lobes, that can be done within 3 months.
Keloid Scars can also be removed. These are thickened, discolored, itchy, abnormal scars that form after ear-piercing. The removal of Keloid Scars can be done in conjuction with your earlobe repair surgery.
Dr. Kaplan generally performs Earlobe Repair Surgery using local anesthesia. All surgery is performed on an out-patient basis in our state-of-the-art AAAHC certified operating room suite, complete with all of the required monitoring, anesthesia delivery and emergency equipment. Dr. Kaplan makes every effort to ensure your complete safety and comfort during surgery. Anesthesia will be discussed during your pre-operative appointment.
