Scar Repair

Would I Benefit from Scar Repair?
If you have any type of scar (see types below) that bothers you either cosmetically or functionally, you may be a good candidate for Dr. Kaplan’s Scar Repair Surgery:

  • You have Keloid Scars, created as a wound healed due to over production of collagen.  These usually appear as growths in the scar site.
  • You have Hypertrophic scars within the boundaries of the scar area but with a thick, raised texture that is unsightly and which may also restrict the natural movement of muscles and tendons.
  • You have facial scars that are not only unattractive, but also restricting to facial movements.
  • You are bothered by the appearance and/or reduced functionality caused by the scar(s).

Regardless of the cause, most people with facial scars tend to be very self-conscious

Scars can be caused by several means such as an injury, acne, or surgery.  It forms wherever there are multiple layers of skin that have been affected and while the skin is in the process of recovering.  Facial scars, with very few exceptions, cause most people to be self-conscious.  In some cases the scar(s) may cause functional limitations of the eyes, mouth, or nose. Today, using the most reliable and advanced techniques, Dr. Kaplan is able to improve the appearance of scars either by disguising, relocating, or minimizing their prominence.  There is no way to remove scars permanently, so Dr. Kaplan’s goal is to improve the appearance as dramatically as possible.

There are different types of scars which require different plastic surgery techniques and procedures.  Dr. Kaplan is skilled and experienced in all of these, having performed thousands of scar repair surgeries and/or procedures.

What Dr. Kaplan's Scar Repair Procedure Accomplishes:
Dr. Kaplan’s goal will be to improve the appearance of the scar(s) by either disguising it, relocating it, or by minimizing its prominence.

Scar Repair Procedure:

  • You will be prepped, made totally comfortable and anesthesia will be administered.
  • For excessively dark or hyperpigmented scars, Dr. Kaplan usually improves the appearance by using bleaching creams, chemical peels, or laser.
  • For Keloid or hypertrophic scars Dr.Kaplan may decide to treat them first with injections of steroids or topically applied silicon to reduce them in size.  If this is not satisfactory, he may decide to surgically remove them.

  • Any discomfort is easily managed with oral medication.
  • Internal sutures will dissolve.
  • Your results will be visible within a few weeks as swelling subsides completely.
